One Year (Almost)

It is hard to believe it has been 51 weeks since our little darlings came into this world. One week from today, they will be ONE!! It has been a year full of love, laughter, tears, exhaustion and most of all joy. I am amazed at how much they have changed in one short (at times, very long) year. Instead of writing it all out, here is a year in pictures.

One Month

**This post is about a week and a half late, but better late than never, right?

Oh my one month....our babies are already a month old, where has the time gone?!? It has been a joyous month, but life with 2 babies has taken some getting used to. Thankfully, we have had a lot of help from family and friends and we are getting into a routine which is making things a little easier. It is amazing how much babies change and learn in only one month!

Sweet babies, at one month you are:

  • Ella Kate, at your 2 week check up you weighed 6lbs 15oz. Jack, you weighed 8lbs 12 oz.
  • Ella Kate, you are still in newborn cloths but they are getting a little snug. You are still in newborn diapers. Jack, you have outgrown most of your newborn cloths, you are in 0-3 month cloths and wearing size 1 diapers.
  • You started off eating about 2 ounces at a time and now you are both eating 4 ounces bottles at each feeding, Jack, you occasionally get an extra ounce when you are especially hungry :) You are both eating primarily breast milk with one formula bottle a day.
  • You started off eating every 2 hours and now are eating every 4 hours which makes life much easier for mommy and daddy.
  • You are still sleeping pretty well. You usually stay awake for about an hour after you eat and then go down for a nap. You both prefer to sleep in your rabbit rockers over your cribs, but we put you down for at least one nap in your crib every day. You are sleeping at least 4 hour stretches at night sometimes longer. You have each slept 5 1/2 hours at least one night, we would like to make that regular practice!
  • You are both a little indifferent about bath time. You don't hate it, but you don't love it either. Ella Kate, you like for the faucet to be turned on during your bath, we think you like the noise, Jack, you don't seem to have a preference.
  • You both enjoy your play gym. Ella Kate, you are reaching up for the toys and swatting at them. Jack, you like to lay there and look at the toys, but aren't swatting at them yet. You spend about 30 minutes each on the play gym every day.
  • You are both getting better about tummy time. Jack, you seem to like it more than your sister, but still aren't a huge fan. Ella Kate, you are holding you head up and moving it from side to side really well. Jack, you are holding yours up too, but not as well as sister.
  • You both love your pacifiers.
  • Ella Kate, so far, you are more laid back.We can usually get you back to sleep pretty easily. You are very alert, you love to just sit and look around. You are very active with your hands, you move and flail them around a lot.
  • Jack, you are a little more dramatic when you cry, you go from a wimper to a scream in no time, but it is usually because you want to me snuggled, which is sweet. You like to be held and swaddled tight.
We are enjoying every second of watching you grow and change. Happy one month little darlings, look forward to many more.

Nursery

Finally, pictures of the nursery!

These were made for my baby shower, I loved them so  much, decided to hang a few of them above the rocker.

Upcycled dresser/changing table thanks to my wonderful mom and chalk paint! The print above the changing table was in my youngest brother's nursery, so special.

Ella Kate's crib

Jack's crib (He now has a bumper, it hadn't come in when these pictures were taken.)

We have made a few additions to the nursery since these pictures were taken, more to come soon. And of course couldn't write this without at least 1 picture of each baby :)

Sweet Shugar ready to welcome home her little brother and sister

We have been getting used to life with babies which mainly involves feeding, changing and not sleeping, but we wouldn't trade it for anything. They  have already  brought so much joy to our lives and they are only 7 days old!

Happy 1 week sweet babies, more to come later.
